this was my last piece for illustration, we were given a few different ad slogans with a basic idea of what our illustration needed to include. I chose:

"We Invented A Thermometer That Works Within The Attention Span Of The Average Five-Year-Old (One Second)"

so basically, it's an advertisement for the new ear thermometer that will replace the rectal thermometers. becauseeee being sick is bad enough! kids shouldn't have to go through more trauma..

Today when coming back from class a man I don't think I've ever seen suddenly stopped and asked what book I was holding. Monet's Giverny I told him. He said, awesome awesome, good for you. do me a favor? I smiled, yes? Go there, he said, it's beautiful, you wont want to leave.

So since I basically promised this man I would go... I will :)

Here are some things I've been working on!

Theee bottom one is in oils, the top three are acrylic. The two portraits with the black background were done on foam core (which I found to be prettyyy fun), though they scanned in kinda funny, I'll try to get a better photo of them later.

freedom for little Gibson

This was my latest assignment for my cloth class, which is suppper cool and much more open then my other major classes.

This piece is about a little pig, Gibson, who is spending his life working working working. While reading a book on break he realizes that other pigs are out there enjoying life to the fullest in the wild. With this sudden revelation he leaves life as he knew it to enjoy life the way its suppose to be.

My inspiration for this silly story was my life. These last few weeks I got so caught up in working working I let my focus drift from my relationship with my Lord and Saviour. I'm not supposed to live my life from deadline to deadline. I have been given freedom and so much more :)

"As a student I used to put a lot of pressure on myself, trying to draw "as well as X" or " as nicely as Y" and it was very frustrating, because i was using a lot of techniques that weren't really mine, like drawing the inner structure, or "the force" or drawing with straight lines only... I forgot to update for awhile so here's a few things from the sketchbook.
with some of these I just liked the lines. I don't know if they completely make sense but I like the feeling of them.

I want to capture more expression and movement in my drawings

I've had a wonderful month of family time and sleep, but now it's time to start getting things done.

some sketches from today while I realized yet again that my left hand can produce better work than the right, I really enjoy drawing, I think I draw weird, and people think just because you're drawing you like anime.

& I wanna shout out a congratulations to one of my best friends for getting an internship with Disney :)

but I felt like posting this.

It's my last illustration assignment for the year.

It was an open assignment so I decided to go with the concept of showing a girls life defined by the dresses she wears.

So it starts with the sunday dress, move to prom, then wedding, then old woman gardening dress. All the while the flower she picked is included in the event she's going through, then she passes it on to her grandchild and life repeats itself.

It was a slow assignment, just working with this new media anddddd maybe my process work was lacking...so it was a learning experience. Overall I'm pretty happy with it but things can always be changed.

I might make some adjustments and have a better picture up later.

In the task which I have set out to do, I sometimes feel exhilarated, at other times frustrated. Sometimes I feel that I am a great success, at other times that I am the worst of failures. But this simply means that one is living and growing with one's wide range of emotions.

Most picture books have thirty-two pages, and I take great care within this space as to how I place the pictures, how I develop and pace the ideas and images, and how the story should end. A book needs to be composed like a symphony, a duet, or a quiet piece of chamber music. A style and flow must be established. But most of all, one should have an open mind and listen to one's intuition: the unexplainable, the coincidental, even the quirky. Look at the crack in the ceiling and see it take on a shape and a voice.

here's my assignment I did for painting !
we had a Belgium teacher, Tilda(?), exchange with our painting teacher for a few weeks, which was way cooool.
She had us make our room while showing space without using the western idea of perspective.
I really liked the assignment becauuuse often times I feel like I have to make my art look a certain way or it's just wrong.
so this assignment was cool, loose and fine artys :)

I decided to go 3D with it, I made my rooms and cut out the furniture. Hunting down different kinds of fabric was fun, I'd really like to explore the idea of working 3D more. then I got to mess around with lighting and shoot them (with the help of the lovely Ginger).
Printing is...an art in itself. I've definitely gained more respect for photo majors after having that experience with the printers..

So this is how the printers were supposed to make them look.

Overall it was a lot of fun to just mess around and see what I could do.

here are a few things I did in my media class last semester.
I really like watercolors.

the scans are okay, though the colors don't look completely like they should...
I'm just glad to have figured out how this crazy scanner works.

fun: A source of enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure.

towards the end of the semester I began to realize enjoyment, amusement, and pleasure were not something I experienced when doing homework.
or even seemed to think about.

I kept trying to do what I thought I was "supposed to do."
somehow I made up in my head that there are only certain ways to produce artwork that looks good, and even if I didn't enjoy that process I just needed to suck it up and get it done.

I don't know how I come up with these things...

after various people reminded me to "just have fun" it suddenly hit me that maybe I should...
be having fun.

so for my final illustration I decided I wanted to construct my own little world using print making paper, water color, an exacto/scissors and rubber cement.

the final result is okay. colors could be stronger, gestures could be better, but I really enjoyed making this piece.
so I'm going to keep trying this technique.

I need to learn to feel more open to experimenting...and failing...and learning.

the illustration had to include a person, a gesture, an animal, a plant and an inanimate object.
so boy throwing water balloons at girl was my solution.

Here's a few things from color class that I actually enjoyed painting :)

Eh the images aren't great and I suppose I should edit them, buuut I'm not feeling the urge to do so at the moment.

Both are studies of white-ish objects on a colored background the shadows are bleh but here they are.
